"Five Big Shining Stars." - The Jazz Review
"First Rate!" - L.A. Times
Daria was born and raised in San Francisco, growing up as part of a uniquely creative family. Her mother spoke five languages, was a professor of creative writing and is a published author. Her father was a first violinist with the San Francisco Symphony. Daria began to sing when she was 6 years old. She studied classical piano and classical voice, singing in choirs and madrigal groups. When she was a teen she started listening to jazz and very quickly knew her musical interests were going in a more innovative direction. She later went on to study with Bobby McFerrin, Mark Murphy and Brazilian musician, Celia Malheiros.
In 1998 Daria made her first recording as a leader, the EP 'Just The Beginning', produced by Ian Dogole. It received excellent reviews and gained international airplay. In 2005, her next CD, 'Feel The Rhythm', produced and arranged by Pianist, Frank Martin and six-time Grammy nominee, Wayne Wallace, not only featured Daria's talents as a singer but as a songwriter who contributed three of her original songs. The title track, "Feel The Rhythm", received Honorable Mention from the Billboard World Music Competition and garnered critical acclaim.
For the past nine years, Daria has toured the world as a backup singer, percussionist and melodica player for Dan Hicks and the Hot Licks, recording with the legend and performing at many clubs and festivals including Davies Symphony Hall and the Montreux Jazz Festival. Daria frequently leads her own group in Northern California and internationally. She has performed at prestigious clubs and festivals in the Bay area, L.A. and NYC. In addition, she has sung in Japan and Europe. She has shared the stage with Bob Dorough, Ricki Lee Jones, Dan Hicks, Tuck and Patti, Dave Grisman, Maria Muldaur, Joe Sample, Harold Jones, Lawrence Hobgood, Christian McBride, Abe Laboriel, Harvie S, Jose Neto, Lewis Nash, Marcos Silva, Harvey Wainapel, Wayne Wallace, Frank Martin and Alex Acuna among many others. Daria's performances are engaging, entertaining and original, cementing her reputation as a compelling singer who erases the boundaries between jazz and World Music. "In sum, Daria is the real deal" - All About Jazz
Currently breaking new ground with 'The Off-White Album', Songs by the Beatles, due out in 2015, Daria is joined by some of the most creative Bay Area musicians. Arranged and co-produced by bassist, Sam Bevan, listeners will hear these famous songs with new insight. One can really appreciate what Mark Murphy said about the colorful performer: "Daria has all the elements of the great jazz singers - complete musicality, bravery, intense commitment to you, her listener, to give you her very best. And the voice? Just lovely."
