Workshop--MASK MOVEMENT FOR ALL by Larry Hunt

PART OF HANDMADE WORLDS: A FESTIVAL OF PUPPET THEATRE
(For more information about all the festival activities, go to www.handmadeworlds.org)

Study of mask intent includes attitudes, emotions, speed, relationships, character traits.

Larry Hunt's movement workshops will encourage exploration of body language in relationship to the expressions on the full silent masks.

You will undoubtedly discover a freedom of expression through the mask. We will work with physical and musical elements and create short vignettes as a result of the relationships found within and between the masks.

A key learning goal is to help us all become better 'observers', both in our external worlds and our internal worlds.

(Maximum 25 participants)

Bio: Larry Hunt is an actor, director, mask-maker, and educator. Since 1977, he has performed throughout most of the United States, much of Canada, and many other countries including China, Japan, Australia, Poland, Denmark, Sweden, Finland, Israel, Bulgaria, Serbia, Czech Republic, Turkey and England.

Since 1980, Larry has produced and performed original theater works under the auspices of MASQUE, an international touring company which he founded.

Larry Hunt creates all of his own masks, characters, and situations. Each mask embodies a "clown" persona in the most positive and dramatic sense of the word. With this in mind, the characters and situations are involved in observing and commenting on the human situation whether it be the absurdity of the ego or the plight of a lonely old man. Much of the work is on a metaphorical basis which guides the audience to their own personal involvement and interpretations.

He has evolved a distinctive version of mask performance which combines historical traditions with innovative approaches to body movement and improvisation. In addition to solo performances incorporating original masks and puppets, he has collaborated extensively with other performing artists worldwide including a non verbal Hamlet in Denmark and Playing With Klee in Hong Kong; a non-verbal theatrical representation inspired by the artwork of Paul Klee.
