PART OF HANDMADE WORLDS: A FESTIVAL OF PUPPET THEATRE (For more information about all the festival activities, go to www.handmadeworlds.org)
This is a lecture workshop about creating lively successful puppet character designs. There are some drawing exercises (no fancy drawing ability required) and, naturally, plenty of visual aids. I will share with you tips and tricks that help inspire and create a puppet design with your audience in mind. I also encourage you to bring a character design idea to share and/or discuss. This workshop is for all levels of experience and skill sets.
(Maximum 25 participants)
Bio: Steve Mark has been a freelance illustrator for over 25 years. He has created and illustrated countless characters for advertising and publishing, as well as illustrating the puppeteer trading cards featured at the 2013 National Puppet Festival. Steve has been creating puppets for his own shows and for others for the last 10 years. He designed the re-built puppets (marionette, shadow and hand puppets) for the Minneapolis Macy's "Moose Crossing" holiday puppet show. Steve has also had the distinct pleasure of learning puppet design from Jim Rose, Phillip Huber, Paul Mesner, Jim Napolitano and many members of the Twin Cities Puppeteers Guild.
HANDMADE WORLDS: A Festival of Puppet Theatre is produced by Open Eye Figure Theatre in collaboration with the Great Plains Region of The Puppeteers of America and In the Heart of the Beast Puppet and Mask Theatre.
