A Taste of Abruzzo Warehouse Tasting: Benefitting Slow Food San Franciso and Sustain Abruzzo
COME CELEBRATE ABRUZZO AT VILLA ITALIA
With generous assistance from the rest of Italy and abroad, Lorenzo Scarpone's home, the region of Abruzzo, is gradually rebuilding after the recent devastating earthquake.
Fortunately his home town of Guardia Vomano was spared major damage therefore his family, friends and fellow citizens are doing all they can to help those affected to get back on their feet. By focusing their efforts on supporting small-scale farmers who lost not only property, but also markets for what they produce, Lorenzo and friends of Abruzzo are doing all they can to insure that Abruzzo's rich culture is not only preserved but sustained for many days to come.
In order to celebrate their efforts Lorenzo Scarpone and the Villa Italia family have decided to open up their home to Slow Food members by inviting you to enjoy a feast for the seasons at their annual Villa Italia Trade Warehouse Wine tasting. They have invited two culinary stars of Guardia Vomano to come and cook their local specialties. For instance Ercole and Stefano Fasciocco, two butchers from Lorenzo's home town, will prepare "Porchetta Teramane" and "Arosticini". The latter are thin skewers quickly grilled marinated lamb. (Note: These have been known to be completely addictive.)
To accompany the feast, Lorenzo and the talented guest chefs will be presenting a host of Abruzzese wines, which are at last beginning to receive the international recognition they deserve. They will be showing the second vintage from Lorenzo's own "estate", the 2007 Scarpone Montepulciano, as well as the superb 2006 Castellum Vetus Montepulciano d'Abrusso (D.O.C.G.) from the Centorame winery.
The tasting will also feature the following collectible wines:
2004 Barolos from Fratelli Alessandria
2004 Brunello and 2003 Brunello Riserva from Fornacina
2004 Amarone from Nicolis
2004 Ciliegiolo Riserva San Lorenzo from Sassotondo
And to pay homage to the quickly approaching holiday season look out for the exciting array of new (and rather unusual) "spumante" and "frizzante" wines:
La Maschera Prosecco
2007 Vintage Giustino Bisol Prosecco from Ruggieri
Sparkling Vernaccia di Serrapetrona from Quacquarini
Sparkling Lacrima di Morro d'Alba "Xyris" from Marotti-Campi
Sparkling Birbet (Brachetto) from Fillipo Gallino and Monchiero Carbone
Hope to see you there!
