Newton Choral Society Presents Blooming in Boston
Blooming in Boston
Church of the Holy Name 1689 Centre Street West Roxbury, MA 02132
We salute Boston's preeminence as a flourishing music center with a program devoted to local composers. Central works include Garden Party, by Daniel Pinkham and Narcissus, by James Woodman. Garden Party, a comic opera, offers a decidedly whimsical and irreverent take on Adam and Eve's banishment from the Garden of Eden. Narcissus, commissioned by the Newton Choral Society in 1995, tells the ancient Greek myth of the beautiful youth who becomes spellbound by his own reflection. Also on the program are works by Carson Cooman set to poems by beloved writers: Eros, by Ralph Waldo Emerson, and The Choir Invisible, by George Eliot.
Susan Consoli, soprano; Tom Jones, baritone; Mark Feldhusen, pianist
