Sacred Visions
The Second Church in Newton 60 Highland Street West Newton, MA 02465
Stir your late-winter soul with an afternoon of glorious music for church and synagogue, anchored by Jean Langlais' Messe Solonelle. Blind from childhood, Langlais was an influential 20th century organist and composer in Paris. The Messe Solonelle is unquestionably his finest piece of church musicand has been out of print for decades until recently. The program also features the celebrated Collegium Regale Magnificat and Nunc Dimittis of Herbert Howells, along with spirituals and inspiring sacred works by 19th and 20th century composers including Johannes Brahms, Max Janowski (Hashkiveinu), Simon Sargon (Psalm 135), and Charles Villiers Stanford.
