Convergent Forms
Convergent Forms is a show which takes the liveliness and structure of three separate performance forms aerial dance, character-based dance, and multimedia performance and combines them into a new, evolved performance style. In the same way as when ocean currents meet, this show will create a form that is distinct in the topography of contemporary performance. Through a balance of formal exploration and narrative structure, the show will be made of four short vignettes: In the first section aerial dance will be supported by the other two forms, then character-based dance with be highlighted, and then multimedia in the form of projected video and live musical performance with be the focus. In the fourth and longest section, the artists will balance each art form equally to create one cohesive artwork. Although the three performers have worked together in the past and will draw from their own extensive independent research, the show will be created for Penasco with the intension of being performed in its unique theater. This will allow for an exciting and relevant multimedia show that directly addresses the information sharing spirit that is so important to art practice today. Emotional and collaborative, it will also draw from the artists' passions, which, in addition to the formal elements, include feminism, post-humanism, and writing new futures through strength of will.
