Lydia and Phil In Concert
Lydia Fortune and Phil Nigro opened a sold-out show for Dr. Maya Angelou on May 9th at the Hanover Theatre in Worcester, MA. Dr. Angelou's gracious acknowledgment of their performance brought them a second round of applause as she took the stage. The duo presented two tunes during a 6-minute set which included their composition "If I Had My Way". They have recently been named finalists by the Great American Songwriters Contest for the song in a competition that featured songwriters from across the U.S.A. and 45 other countries. The song placed in the top 100.
Singer/songwriting team, Lydia Fortune and Phil Nigro, began crafting songs together in May of 2010. Lydia's voice and Phil's guitar are so wonderfully aligned you would think they have been performing together for decades. Both artists have been performing separately in the Regional Massachusetts area for over 40 years. They each began singing various forms of folk music in the 1970s and have developed eclectic repertories across a broad spectrum of musical styles that include folk, country and Delta blues, Americana, jazz and contemporary tunes. It was the mutual love of music that made this collaboration possible. This year, they released a new cd 'If I Had My Way', and continue to frequent regional and local open mic venues.
