A Night with Giacomo Smith and Friends!
Rewind and step back in time about 80 years. Imagine a casual stroll down Congress Street, a short block away from the doors of Universal Preservation Hall. In about 100 yards at the junction of Congress Street and Franklin Street there is an exciting hub of a vibrant activity. Saratoga's jazz culture is booming, and the neighborhood round these parts is its own mini-Harlem and Jack's Harlem Club is at the center of it all.
"Bands played, costumed women sang and danced, strippers stripped, comics joked, blues singers broke hearts and female impersonators shocked the clientele." - Myra Beth Young Armstead
On September 6th, London-based Saratoga-native, Giacomo Smith, brings together an ensemble of local and international musicians to celebrate the music of that great era. The 6-piece ensemble will play swing and New Orleans classics. This historical moment will relive the spirit and energy of a time and a place where you could dance the night away to some of the hottest bands. So throw on your best and get ready to dance and, please, 'speakeasy' to your friends because we are goin' to have a good old time!
Some reviews of Giacomo's current project...
"KS have the energy of Kerouac, the spirit of Mephistopheles and more raw talent than the Renaissance. Ninth wonder of the world. Long days of rest are needed after a KS party. You have been warned." - Tim Wilson : Director Vault Festival
"As a producer, who has worked in both radio and television, I have rarely enjoyed working with a band more than Kansas Smitty's Big Four. All of the members play sensationally well - and are darned nice with it! They stole our Independence Day edition of Friday Night Is Music Night and all of us orchestra and production alike were delighted for them. If you get a chance to book them do. You won't regret it." - Anthony Cherry : Producer, BBC Radio 2
