Rochester Oratorio Society: German Requiem
The ROS's second masterworks concert takes place on March 13, 2015, 7:30 P.M. at Hochstein Performance Hall. Celebrating 70 seasons of choral excellence, the ROS opens with Norman Dello Joio's classic "Jubilant Song," an energetic, hopeful setting of Walt Whitman poetry that has become a choral favorite. Special guests, the Houghton College Choir, Adam Luebke, director, joins the ROS for Johannes Brahms's masterwork, "A German Requiem" in Brahms's own setting for piano 4-hands, with Nazareth College faculty member Linda Boianova joining Kevin Nitsch in the accompaniment. Soprano Elena O'Connor and baritone Benjamin Bloomfield perform the solo roles. Dr. Luebke, in his first year as Houghton College's choral director, leads the choir in traditional anthems and spirituals. Mendelssohn's popular anthem "Verleih uns Frieden" ("Grant us Peace") completes the program.
