Jamie Laval and Robin Bullock at August Prep. Conservatory
Jamie and Robin will present a 2-hour program of traditional music from around the Celtic diaspora, including Scotland, Ireland, Bretagne, Galicia, Quebec, and Appalachia.
Jamie Laval is heralded as One of North Americas finest practitioners of traditional Scottish music (San Jose Mercury News) and The next Alasdair Fraser (Press and Post). The Asheville Citizen-Times writes, One of the hottest fiddlers out therethis act has been turning heads wherever it plays.
Jamies unique approach to Celtic fiddle music blends the simplicity of an ancient art form with stunning virtuosity and contemporary flair that resonates with families, youth, seniors, and devotees of ethnic, jazz, and classical music.
Now a resident of Asheville, North Carolina, Jamie began his music career studying classical music at the Victoria Conservatory of Music. In 2002 Laval won the U.S. National Scottish Fiddle Championship and subsequently embarked on a full time touring career which today includes over 120 engagements per year throughout the U.S. and Scotland. www.JamieLaval.com

Born in 1964 in Washington DC, Robins apprenticeship years were spent at fiddlers' conventions, bluegrass festivals and Irish seisuns, being initially inspired by Doc and Merle Watson, Norman Blake and John Fahey. He has gone on to win three WAMMIE Awards, a Governor's Award from the Maryland State Arts Council, and a feature broadcast on National Public Radio's hugely popular Celtic music program "The Thistle and Shamrock." Robin has recorded eight critically acclaimed solo CDs, and a recent collaborative recording with guitarist Steve Baughman was an Editors Pick of Acoustic Guitar Magazine in 2003.
Robin currently lives in the tiny village of Tripleval, near Paris. He tours and records on both sides of the Atlantic, performing solo and in duos with guitarist Steve Baughman and flutist Michel Sikiotakis.
What he offers is not just virtuosity for the sake of virtuosity, says Trad Magazine (France), but also the sensibility of one on a quest between past and present, traditional and modern. A musician whose technical skill and stylistic expertise are second to none...a time-served folkie of the highest calibre. (Classical Guitar - U.K.) www.RobinBullock.com
