Can't Stop the Serenity
Can't Stop the Serenity (CSTS) began in 2006, less than one year after the release of Serenity, as a tribute to the birthday of our creative master, Joss Whedon. Cities from around the globe were called to host charitable screenings of Serenity for the benefit Equality Now, an organization that works to end violence and discrimination against women and girls around the world. Joss has been continually outspoken in his support of the organization and gender equality initiatives.
The Arizona Browncoats have participated in this annual global fundraising effort since its inception, raising over $30,000 for Equality Now and other women's charities in the past three years. Globally, more than $250,000 has been raised for Equality Now. Locally, 20% of the proceeds from the Tucson screenings in 2007 and 2008 were donated to the Women's Foundation of Southern Arizona (WFSA), while 20% of the proceeds from the Phoenix screening were donated to Growth Improvement for Female Teens (GIFT) in 2007 and to the Fresh Start Women's Foundation (Fresh Start) in 2008.
