In the highlands of Mexico, Mayan women of Chiapas have a story to tell about survival, strength, and endurance. Microfinance loans have given these women the chance to start or improve a small business. This gives them the ability to lift themselves and their children out of abject poverty, through their own talents and skills. Muhammad Yunus, Nobel Peace Prize recipient, explains how microfinance works while we see it through the lives of Mayan women.
