"With the summer heating up, there's no better time for some dance music and this congregation of musicians from Human Sexual Response, Either/Orchestra, Bim Skala Bim, and other Boston bands have just the thing with their revival of bugalu, the explosive '60s Nuyorican mélange of various Latin and African American styles."
Stuart Monro, Boston Globe
Lookie Lookie is a new band full of old-timers, where Boston rock, Latin and jazz all-stars join together to play Latin Bugalu.
Bugalu is crossover music from the groovy 1960s, a kind of garage band Latin. Bugula is in the air these days, with vintage songs by its top artist Joe Cuba appearing in the soundtracks of recent Hollywood films like "The Wolf of Wall Street" and "Chef." Lookie Lookie plays Bugalu with a healthy mix of reverence and irreverence, laying down serious party grooves and always having fun. Other featured composers include Ricardo Ray, Johnny Pacheco and George Guzman.
Lookie Lookie was founded by bassist Chris Maclachlan, best known for his work in the seminal Boston punk band Human Sexual Response. He is joined by percussionists Rick Barry of Bim Skala Bim, Ken Winokur of the Alloy Orchestra, Vicente Lebron of Club D'Elf, and Jorge Arce, the dean of Latin musicians in Boston. In the horn section are Scott Getchell of Lars Vegas and Agachiko, and Russ Gershon of the Either/Orchestra and Orchestra Morphine. For their Lizard Lounge debut, they are joined by guest Ted DeColo on alto sax and flute.
And (much to the delight of their friends and fans) everybody sings - in Spanish and English!
