Arte y Pasión presents ANGEL OF GRAVITY
Arte y Pasión in conjunction with The Uptown Studio is proud to present Angel of Gravity, a project juxtaposing flamenco with modern movement and fine art. The project explores dynamics of the most catalytic of relationships that occur in human experience, provoking passion and leaving nothing behind but indelible memory, like a piece of paper when you fold it, leaving a permanent mark. The source of inspiration is those rare experiences that happen once or twice in one's lifetime. These experiences render complete upheaval and move us completely, like tectonic plates when they shift, leaving us transformed indelibly. Each piece tells a story of human emotion and rite of passage from one state to the next, for better or for worse.
The Sept 12 performance of Angel of Gravity features Cantaores Chayito Champion, Flamenco Guitarist Luisma Ramos, Violinist Jean-Philippe Rominger, and dancers Stephan Gaeth, Yvonne Castano, and Tamara Adira, featuring special guest artist Bianca Rodriguez.
The project will take an interdisciplinary approach, juxtaposing flamenco with fine art, performing against the backdrop of the art of JD Morera, with Morera performing live painting inspired by the ongoing the performance.
Laredo native, Bianca Rodriguez began dancing at age three with Mina Gutierrez-Hachar. She studied Ballet and Spanish classical dance for most of her youth as well as music and theatre arts. Bianca received a BA in Dance with an emphasis in Flamenco from UNM. While in New Mexico she studied with Karime Amaya, Mercedes Amaya, Manuel Linan, and Adela Campallo as well as performed with several professional groups. Upon graduating from college she became a certified Hatha Yoga instructor and then traveled to Spain and India for several months. While in Spain Bianca studied with Juana Amaya, El Torombo, Farruquito, and Angelita Vargas. Before leaving Spain she performed with a group in a popular tablao in Sevilla. Once she returned from her travels, Bianca began to work in Antonio Granjero and Estefania Ramirez's company EntreFlamenco in San Antonio, TX. She toured for New York based company, Carlota Santana's, with a school outreach program in North Carolina. Bianca currently lives in California and performs and teaches regularly. Her most recent shows have been with Emmy award winning choreography Yaelisa and world renowned guitarist Jason Mcguire.
Tamara Adira is Artistic Director of Arte y Pasión. She is 2010 winner of the Artist Foundation of San Antonio Bernard Lifshutz Award for "Original Theatrical Production" and sole finalist for "Original Choreography."
