Whether you are simply contemporary ballet curious, familiar with it as a movement formula which includes inspiration from other types of dance, or you are looking to try something new, this class is sure to blow you away! Join Bryn Chafin (Atlanta, GA) for this exclusive 2-hour workshop at the Chifferobe Atelier!
Attendees will begin with a yoga based warm up that leads into abdominal work to strengthen and engage the core. This will continue into a basic ballet floor barre that focuses on technique and getting a dancer on their supporting leg. Additional isolations, arm swings, and across the floor movement is utilized to loosen the body further and allow a dancer to "move" and build onto the warm up. Bryn's center combinations are eclectic and are usually based on her mood. "Contemporary" for Bryn can include jazz, modern, or lyrical movement. She wants dancers to improve their technique, however express themselves. Bryn believes that once choreography is given, it becomes the dancer's; she encourages dancers to fully embrace what the dance means for them while respecting the integrity of the movement. Bryn's teaching style is high energy and supportive, with a goal of and focus towards making dancers feel safe and secure while also challenging them to push themselves.

About the Instructor:
Bryn has been dancing since she was 3-years-old. She trained in a number of different styles including ballet, jazz, modern, character, and flamenco with the Atlanta Ballet Center for Dance Education. As a teenager and a pre-professional with the Atlanta Ballet, Bryn was given the opportunity to perform roles with the professional company in ballets such as "The Nutcracker" and Michael Pink's world premier of "Romeo and Juliet". Also during high school, Bryn attended many summer dance intensives including a program in Beijing, China to train with the Beijing Ballet Academy. After high school, she attended the University of Arizona where she double majored in dance and creative writing. Bryn moved to San Francisco after graduation to teach, dance, and train with contemporary companies including Napoles Ballet and Capacitor. Bryn moved back to Arizona in 2009 and found her passion for teaching with Ballet Fusion Fitness in 2011. She obtained her Master's in Social Work from Arizona State University in May of 2013 and practiced as a clinical therapist for Arizona long term care clients. While she counsels others by day, dance and teaching is her passion and form of self-care in the evening. Bryn was the assistant director to Ballet Fusion Fitness' dance company Second Act Dance and enjoyed choreographing and dancing for two summers before moving back to Atlanta, GA. Bryn is excited to be back in her home town and looks forward to new teaching, dancing, and choreographing opportunities.
