African-American Shakespeare 2014-2015 Season Subscription
We proudly announce the lineup for our 20th season and fifth season under the artistic leadership of acclaimed Bay Area actor and director L. Peter Callender. The season opens in October with an imaginative modern-day politically-charged production of William Shakespeare's THE TEMPEST, directed by Nancy Carlin. We usher in the holidays in December with an enchanting production of CINDERELLA, directed by Margo Hall; this new take on the timeless fairytale has become a seasonal favorite for families and children of all ages. The season continues in February with Nambi E. Kelley's contemporary urban adaptation of Sophocles' tragedy Antigone, XTIGONE (World Premiere) directed by Rhodessa Jones. Closing the season in May is a co-production with Golden Thread Productions of Torange Yeghiazarian's ISFAHAN (World Premiere), directed by Laura Hope. Inspired by Duke Ellington Orchestra's 1963 tour to Iran and featuring music by Marcus Shelby, Isfahan imagines an unlikely friendship between an American jazz musician and an Iranian actress. Join us this season as we celebrate our 20th Anniversary!
