Maya Beiser, cello
Green Guest Concert: Maya Beiser, cello Saturday, March 14, 2015 7:30 p.m. Green Center, Kresge Auditorium
Described as a "cello goddess" (The New Yorker) with "the kind of magnetic panache usually reserved for rock stars" (New York Magazine), Maya Beiser gives the cello a modern makeover for her program at DePauw, putting a classical spin on classic rock "uncovers" by Led Zeppelin, Janis Joplin, Pink Floyd and Nirvana, along with newer works written especially for her.
Top New York critics have consistently chosen Beiser's Carnegie Hall concerts on their "Best of The Year" lists. Her 2010 album "Provenance" topped the classical and world music charts on both Amazon and iTunes, and Maya's recording, "Time Loops," was selected among NPR's top 10 recordings of 2012.
"Uncovered," her newest CD, is getting impressive reviews, while Beiser and her band are wowing live audiences with their musical resourcefulness, multi-media and visual effects.
