Event
Kate Wirth with The Overton Berry Ensemble
Local jazz vocalist Kate Wirth will be featured in a special benefit concert singing jazz standards on August 9,2014. Accompanying Kate on piano is jazz legend and Seattle Jazz Hall of Famer Overton Berry who will be joined by Mike Eytcheson on bass and Rick Spano on drums - both regular guests of the Overton Berry Ensemble. The event will be recorded.
The performance is in memory of Michael Alcayaga under the banner #Live4Michael. Michael lost his life after a valiant effort to free his body of leukemia, passing away in May at the age of 16. Mrs. Wirth and Mr. Berry hope to raise awareness of this type of cancer, and proceeds from the concert will be donated to help the family with medical expenses.
Mr. Berry said of the upcoming concert: "We often feel helpless when a young one is lost, but music is so powerful in its ability to move us and bring us together, and I'm so thankful we have an opportunity to raise awareness, help this family 'make a joyful noise' and #Live4Michael! I am so looking forward to this event"
To further support the #Live4Michael movement, audience members are encouraged to wear their #Live4Michael wear or an orange article of clothing.
An additional box for donations will be available at the door. This will also be available for those unable to gain access to the show. People are also encouraged to bring photos of themselves with Michael that the family may keep.
