Call Mr. Robeson Benefit Performance for CEC and PRH
Please join the artists center CEC (Community Education Center) and Paul Robeson House for a very special benefit performance of Tayo Aluko's bonitfied hit show Call Mr. Robeson. Direct from England, British Nigerian actor singer Tayo Aluko, winner: Best Male Actor, Argus Angel Award: Brighton Fringe (UK), 2008 brings his moving and insightful portrayal of the famed actor, singer, and civil rights pioneer, Paul Robeson, to life!
Call Mr. Robeson is a roller coaster journey through Robeson's remarkable and eventful life, and highlights how his radical activism caused him to be disowned and disremembered, even by the leaders and descendants of the civil rights movement. It features some of his famous songs and speeches, including a dramatic rendition of Ol Man River and a spectacularly defiant testimony in front of the Senate House Un-American Activities Committee.
Much more than just pretty songs! No boring history lesson!
Written and performed by Tayo Aluko, featuring Philadelphia's own Dr. Jay Fluellen, piano accompanist.
