South Jersey Pops Orchestra 2014 Fundraiser Concert - Marlton United Methodist Church
The South Jersey Pops Orchestra presents a "Best of the SJ Pops" fundraiser concert to benefit our rehearsal venue host, Marlton United Methodist Church in Marlton, NJ.
The concert will feature some of our favorite music the South Jersey Pops has performed in recent years. It will include a special encore performance of "Concerto No. 1," an original work composed by Pops bassist Thomas Michel, which premiered at our Spring Concert on May 18, 2013. Thomas plays in the Pops' bass section with his grandfather Allan, and his father Charles plays in the Pops' oboe section. Thomas is a graduate of Cherry Hill High School West, and enters Drexel University in the fall. He will follow in the footsteps of his father and grandfather, both Drexel alumni. Like them, he will major in electrical engineering.
Admission is $8.00, children middle-school age and younger are admitted free (no ticket is required). Light refreshments will be served in the fellowship hall following the concert. All proceeds from the concert will benefit Marlton United Methodist Church, in appreciation for providing an excellent rehearsal facility and home for the SJ Pops since September 2013.
Conductor and music director Robert Schiavinato, in his third season with the South Jersey Pops, brings with him nearly 20 years of experience as a conductor and instrumentalist with both professional and community musical ensembles. Mr. Schiavinato has a degree in Music Education from Glassboro State College and a degree in Brass Performance from Temple and has studied at the Julliard School and the Royal Academy of Music.
Funding for the South Jersey Pops is made possible in part by the New Jersey State Council on the Arts/Department of State, a Partner Agency of the National Endowment for the Arts through a grant to the Burlington County Board of Chosen Freeholders.
