A Midsummer Night's Dream by William Shakespeare
The play depicts the events surrounding the marriage of the Duke of Athens, the madcap romantic escapades of four young lovers and the bumbling attempts of troupe of inept amateur actors to achieve recognition. These characters are helped or hindered (or both) by a group of delightfully mischievous fairies from the forest.
The brilliance of Shakespeare's dialog sparkles as brightly as moonlight on fairies wings as it carries us on a delightful journey into a dazzling world of love, magic and merriment. This production's update to a modern setting enhances identification with the action and only adds to the hilarity.
This play is considered one of Shakespeare's most inventive works. His skillfulness with poking fun at romantic love not only thoroughly entertains, but prods us to examine the nature of love and the significance of our dreams.
Directed by Michael Wilkinson.
