A Cathedral Christmas
As the holidays quickly approach, get in the mood with Benjamin Britten's mesmerizing A Ceremony of Carols. Don't expect the usual suspects, however - these carols use Middle-English texts, made all the more medieval sounding by Britten's novel writing for treble voices and harp.
The holiday mood shifts to our own era with colorful and exciting arrangements of familiar carols by Vaughan Williams, Michael McGlynn, David Maddux and Jackson Berkey.
Joining the Seattle Choral Company will be the nationally acclaimed handbell ensemble, Bells of the Sound.
There are three performances of our 2009 Cathedral Christmas concert. In addition to the one mentioned here, it will also be presented on Friday and Saturday, December 11 and 12, both at 8pm at St. Mark's Cathedral in Seattle.
Our program will include:
A Ceremony of Carols (by Benjamin Britten) Ave Maria (by Franz Biebl) Christmas Is Coming (by Veljo Tormis) Over the Skies of Yisrael (by Robert Seeley) Personent Hodie (by David Maddux) Angelus (by Steven Sametz) Yule-tide Fires (by Diane Loomer) God Rest You Merry O Tannenbaum Patapan Riu, Riu, Chiu Still Still Still Wondrous Love ...and a carol sing-along!
