Voices of Ascension - Mozart Requiem & Coronation Mass
Mozart's early years were spent in the beautiful, picturesque town of Salzburg, Austria. Here he composed an enormous amount of music, no doubt influenced by the many exquisite Rococo churches. Of all his early church music, Mozart's Coronation Mass is undoubtedly his most brilliant work, filled with inspired melodies, glorious choruses, and the ravishing soprano solo, "Agnus Dei."
Mozart's famous Requiem came from Vienna during the last days of his life. It contains some of the most inspired music he ever composed: the tragic resignation of the opening introduction, the fierce "Dies irae," the unique "Tuba mirum," and the intense, pleading "Lacyrmosa," the movement Mozart was working on when he died.
