Tuesday, September 22 at 7:30pm Guest Speaker: Archivist Bill Shelley
Members $9 / Public $12 / Includes Reception Active Membership Will Be Checked
This presentation showcases Motown, the hit song factory of Detroit during the 1960s, featuring such superstars as Diana Ross & the Supremes (Baby Love), The Temptations (My Girl), Smokey Robinson (Tears of a Clown), Martha & The Vandellas (Dancing in the Streets), Stevie Wonder (My Cherie Amore), Mary Wells (My Guy), The Four Tops (Baby I Need Your Loving), Marvin Gaye (Can I Get a Witness?), and The Jackson Five (ABC). These artists all made hundreds of Top Ten smash records. The focus will be on these famous groups in rare performances on American and European television broadcasts, some of which were never released in the U.S. There will also be rare footage of Otis Redding performing in Europe (1966), Ike & Tina Turner doing their act in Las Vegas in 1969, and a special tribute to Michael Jackson with the Jackson Five. In addition, there will be a glimpse of The Earl Van Dyke Band, better known as the original Funk Brothers, the unsung musical geniuses who played the instrumental accompaniments and made the music happen. (The program will run approximately 2 hours)
