SketchFest: The Seattle Comedy Festival
Never satisfied with the mediocrity that abounds in the televised sketch world (Exhibit A: Saturday Night Live), the Seattle sketch scene has gained nationwide notoriety over the past decade for its innovative and theatre-influenced take on the live sketch comedy form. In 1999 Sketchfest Seattle, the country's first ever, and longest running, live sketch comedy festival was formed to celebrate the abundance and richness of the Seattle scene as well as showcase top sketch groups from around the U.S. and Canada.
This years festival, the 11th annual, will include stand-up comedy, hybrid sketch/improv acts, and solo comedy theatre shows along side its robust line-up of sketch troupes.
SketchFest will pack more comedy than ever into six raucous days at Theatre Off Jackson. In addition to the 19 live acts from Seattle and across the U.S., Canada, and Australia, SketchFest will also hold its second annual SketchFest Video Contest, offer a six-day Sketch Comedy Intensive for Women, hold a forum on careers in comedy, and stage a brand new collaborative mash-up show with visiting performers.
