Five Fridays: Violin and Piano
Luosha Fang will return to Five Fridays joined by Astral Pianist Sejoon Park to present an evening of works for Violin and Piano. Taking place by candlelight in Saint Paul's vast neo-gothic nave as the backdrop, this program will enable to the audience to engage with the artists in an intimate setting. All proceeds benefit Face-to-Face Germantown and the Interfaith Hospitality Network.
Luosha Fang, Violin A winner of Astral Artists' 2013 National Auditions, violinist Luosha Fang made her concert debut at the age of eight, in Mozart's Violin Concerto No. 3. She recently premiered and recorded George Tsontakis' double violin concerto Unforgettable for the Albany Symphony Orchestra, and in 2010, premiered Chinese composer Shen Yiwen's violin concerto Mulan with the American Symphony Orchestra, under Leon Botstein. In March 2014, Ms. Fang appeared in Carnegie Hall, performing Penderecki's Sextet. In the summer of 2014, she is in residence at Marboro Music. Upcoming, Ms. Fang joins the Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra as a regular guest artist, and is featured as soloist with the Louisville Orchestra in "Autumn" from Vivaldi's Four Seasons. Ms. Fang was awarded the Silver Medal at the prestigious 2010 Fischoff National Chamber Music Competition, as the first violinist of the Chimeng Quartet, for whom she is also a founding member. The quartet has also performed Takuma Itoh's Concerto for String Quartet with the Albany Symphony Orchestra, under David Alan Miller. She has appeared at the Library of Congress, Italy's Incontri in Terra di Siena Chamber Music Festival, the Rhinebeck Chamber Music Society, Chamber Music Society of Reading, Norfolk Chamber Music Festival, Ravinia Festival's Steans Institute for Young Artists, and the Aspen, Kneisel Hall, Music from Angel Fire, and Bard festivals. Ms. Fang came to the United States from China in 2005 on a Distinguished Scholarship in Classical Violin, to further her studies at the Bard College Conservatory of Music. After graduating from Bard with degrees in both Violin Performance and Russian Studies, she attended the Curtis Institute of Music, where she received a Diploma in 2014. She has also studied at the St. Petersburg Conservatory.
Sejoon Park, Piano Sejoon Park was born to cellist parents in Seoul, Korea, and made his orchestral debut with Korea's Busan Philharmonic Orchestra at the age of ten. Mr. Park has received top prizes from the New Orleans International Piano Competition, the PianoArts Competition, the Southeastern Piano Competition, and the King Award for Young Artists. He has performed on the stages of Lincoln Center's Alice Tully Hall, the Kennedy Center, and the Benedict Music Tent in Aspen, Colorado, and has appeared as soloist with the Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra, the Salina Symphony, the Eurasian Philharmonic, the South Carolina Philharmonic, and the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra. A PianoArts Fellow and Volunteer Artist for Sing for Hope, Mr. Park participates in musical outreach activities across the United States. He performs regularly for audiences ranging from school children in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, to healthcare patients and seniors in under-resourced communities in New York City. Mr. Park holds a Bachelor of Music degree from the Peabody Institute of The Johns Hopkins University and a Master's degree from The Juilliard School. He is currently continuing studies as an Artist Diploma candidate at the Peabody Institute.
