Love, Humiliation & Karaoke (back from NYC)
Love, Humiliation & Karaoke, returns to SF for 3 command performances after its award-winning NYC premiere @ the 2009 Midtown Intl Theatre Festival. Enzo is tormented by a karaoke hostess - who takes various forms from his mother to his transvestite neighbor. Good-looking latin David is tired of his online dates dumping him when they hear his southern drawl and realize he does not talk like the Chihuahua in the Taco Bell commercials. The third W. Kamau Bell directed project to go bi-coastal in the past year, (I Heart Hamas, NYCFringe08) the directors own runaway hit W. Kamau Bell Curve (NYCFringe09) and now Love, Humiliation & Karaoke (MITF2009).
Already rated Dont Miss! by the SF Chronicle, LHK earned nominations for 2 of New Yorks Midtown Theatre Artist Awards (Best Production-Solo and Outstanding Actor in a Musical Production). Showbiz Weekly calls LHK a quirky and cynical romantic comedy, and BroadwayWorld has dubbed writer/performer Enzo Lombard as the Sedaris of San Francisco. AWESOMEhad me riveted and laughing throughout says theFabMarquee and Off-OffOnline calls LHK a hilarious & entertaining evening of theatrical storytelling.
With inspired direction by W. Kamau Bell, Enzo Lombard has crafted one of the years sharpest solo comedies. Better, smarter, sharper writing than Terrence McNallys Some Men says BeyondChron. Writer/Performer Enzo Lombard plays 12 characters of varying nationalities and 3 genders, often at the same time, in seven fast-paced scenes, each set in a different city. Love, Humiliation & Karaoke opened Fall 2008 at Stagewerx, the grotto-like theater near Union Square, and quickly generated an enthusiastic following, then extended thru winter 2009 before heading off to New York City where it had been selected for a run at the Midtown International Theater Festival.
