BUGS, BOMBS AND BEHEMOTHS By Glenn Andreiev
1950's Hollywood bring to life atomic war phobia!
Atomic bombs overhead and dirty reds under the bed! Many unique, exciting films of the 1950's and 1960's reflected America's fear of nuclear war. Film historian Glenn Andreiev offers this fun, informative class on vintage Hollywood's exploitation of this overwhelming bomb-phobia. These films were a visually stunning outlet for audiences wondering if the world was going to end tomorrow. Clips from exciting, sometimes very rare nuclear war scare films that range from the educational and intelligent to the unforgettably eccentric fill an exciting, one-of-a-kind evening. Come to the Cinema and watch Dr. Seuss, Clint Eastwood, Harry Belafonte, Jack Webb, James Whitmore, Ray Milland, Stanley Kubrick, and many more get swept up in cinematic atomic-mania.
Glenn Andreiev is a long time Long Island filmmaker and film historian. His writings on film history can be found in The Village Connection, and Films In Review. He has lectured on film history at the Cinema Arts Centre and at The School Of Visual Arts, where he holds a BFA degree in film. His work as a film-maker has appeared on CNN, TruTV, Newsday, and The View. Currently, he is working on a film entitled Cat's View
