Saturday 8/29 THE REX COMPLEX with special guests MONIQUE ORTIZ RAILBIRD $8 ADVANCE / $10 at the door 8:30 doors / 9:30 show www.myspace.com/therexcmplex www.myspace.com/moniqueortizmusic www.myspace.com/railbirdmusic
THE REX COMPLEX - The Boston Metro says: This band's song "Missing Pieces" starts like a weirder version of a Police reggae tune before switching into a backwardsy beat and chugging guitar with squealing falsetto vocal attached to a little indie keyboard, then back to the first part. We've never heard anything like it."
Boston's The Weekly Dig described them as, "An inventive, genre-tripping duo that is...a style implosion that taps a kitchen-sink sonic palate." The group's oddball lyrical humor covers bizarre concepts such as eating cats and preachers selling asthma dust, but other songs touch on topics such as driving a man out to see his mother's grave on her birthday.
"The Rex Complex is one of the most exciting bands I have had the pleasure of playing with," says musician Dana Colley (Morphine, A.K.A.C.O.D.). "This band is a must see for anyone with a pulse...driving tempos, soul wrenching vocals, nothing short of a voodoo revival where upon the listener may want to check his head to see if it hasn't shrunk."
Steve Morse, a long time Boston Globe writer described them as "a fresh percussive meld of musical styles." Their new full length album called " A Delicious Victory" is done and will be out soon.
Along with special guests, the low rockin' Monique Ortiz and the rootsy racousness of Railbird.
