Steel Magnolias
This community theatre production of "Steel Magnolias" will move audiences to laughter and tears as six talented actresses bring these strong, interesting, opinionated and hilarious Southern ladies to life on stage at the Historic Everett Theatre. Combining a rare mix of comedy and pathos, the play, which was made into a box office-smashing movie, documents the journey as old friends and family members, neighbors and BFFs learn, grow and support one another.
"Steel Magnolias" by Robert Harling is the funniest play to ever make you cry. One of the most popular and quotable works of the past 20 years, the action is set in Truvy's beauty salon in Chinquapin Parish, Louisiana, where all the ladies who are "anybody" come to have their hair done. The outspoken, wise-cracking Truvy and her new glamour technician, Annelle, dispense shampoos and free advice to the curmudgeonly Ouiser ("I'm not crazy, I've just been in a bad mood for forty years"), the eccentric yet sensible Miss Clairee, and the respected and admired M'Lynn and her daughter Shelby, the prettiest girl in town. As the ladies come face to face with mortality, they draw on the underlying strength and love which make the play and its characters truly touching, funny and solid company in good times and bad. Every event in their lives, from the mundane to the essential, is faced with grace, strength and perfectly done hair.
