Steel Magnolia's
To begin their 49th main-stage season, Nashua Theatre Guild presents Steel Magnolias, the funniest play to ever make you cry. One of the most popular & quotable works of the past 20 years, Steel Magnolias is set in Truvy's beauty salon in Chinquapin Parish, Louisiana, where all the ladies who are "anybody" come to have their hair done. The outspoken, wise-cracking Truvy with the help of her new glamour technician, Annelle, dispenses shampoos and free advice to the curmudgeonly Ouiser ("I'm not crazy, I've just been in a bad mood for forty years"), the eccentric yet sensible Miss Clairee, and the respected and admired M'Lynn and her daughter Shelby, the prettiest girl in town. As the ladies come face to face with mortality, they draw on the underlying strengthand lovewhich give the play, and its characters, the special quality that makes them truly touching, funny and marvelously amiable company in good times and bad. Every event in their lives, from the mundane to the essential, is faced with grace, strength and perfectly done hair.
Directed by Daniel Barth, who also brought Wait Until Dark and Deathtrap to Nashua Theatre Guild, assisted by Jason Crowell and starring NH favorites Maria Barry, Christina Hamilton, Kate Harper, Renee Macneil, Caroline Mellone-Lagno and Judi Mitchell, Steel Magnolias will be performed September 24-27th. Performances are Thursday - Saturday at 8pm and Saturday and Sunday at 2pm at the Janice B. Streeter Theater at 14 Court St, Nashua NH.
