An Evening with the Brubeck Brothers Quartet!
BBQ features four outstanding musicians: Dan Brubeck on drums, Chris Brubeck on bass & trombone, Mike DeMicco on guitar and Chuck Lamb on piano. Their collective approach to their own compositions and tunes written by the Brubeck Brothers legendary father, Dave Brubeck, have thrilled audiences all over the world. They recently toured Russia selling out the major concert halls of Moscow and St. Petersburg and were also invited to play the biggest jazz festivals in North America including the Monterey, Montreal and Playboy Jazz Festival. This August, they will return to the legendary Newport Jazz Festival for the 3rd time. Their latest CD "Lifetimes," was loved by jazz radio across America and ended up in the top ten of the most played CDs of the year (2012). On stage they present a high energy exploration of their own tunes plus contemporary versions of such Brubeck classics as Blue Rondo a la Turk, Kathy's Waltz, and Take Five.
The Boston Globe wrote "The BBQ bring a new energy to straight ahead jazz."
After their June 2014 appearance at the Rochester International Jazz Festival the City Newspaper wrote:
"Regardless of origin, each piece flowed from the Quartet with impeccable ease. I have never seen an act that felt more at home on stage. Each member's instrument seemed like an extension of his body, and it all came together to create a perfect storm of quick rhythms and complicated chords."
In a Los Angeles Times review of their performance last year at the Monterey Jazz Festival, M.J. Katz wrote:
"Capping the set off was "Take Five" in which Dan Brubeck breathed new life into the obligatory drum solo, taking a turn that might have become de riguer and treating the audience to as fine an extended performance as has been rendered on one of jazz's most famous tunes."
Proceeds from the event will go towards the ongoing restoration efforts in the space. This show is proudly sponsored by COOL INSURING AGENCY, INC. in Glens Falls, New York.
Promotional support and production assistance for this series have been provided by PROCTORS and 2440 DESIGN STUDIO. More information regarding each performance group can be found at the UPH website.
