The legendary Purple Onion hosts the opening night of The 34th Annual San Francisco International Comedy Competition, one of the oldest and most prestigious comedy competitions in the country.
Past competitors include Robin Williams, Dana Carvey, Ellen Degeneres, Patton Oswalt, Dane Cook, Steven Wright, Roseanne Barr, and many more.
About The Purple Onion: The Purple Onion is one of the most historic comedy venues in America, and has frequently been voted the Best Comedy Club in San Francisco. The Smothers Brothers recorded their ground-breaking debut album here in 1961, and Zach Galifianakis filmed his popular dvd here in 2005. Phyllis Diller began her career at the Purple Onion, and other past performers include legends such as Lenny Bruce, Richard Pryor, and Woody Allen.
