SFHAC's 2009 Housing Hero Awards Event
Every year, the San Francisco Housing Action Coalition honors someone who has made an exceptional contribution to helping our city develop a pro-housing culture and to promote "well-designed, well located housing at ALL levels of affordability, to meet the needs of San Franciscans, present and future." Ticket prices: $40 SFHAC members, $55 non-members.
This year we honor Commissioners Ron Miguel and Christina Olague, the president and vice-president AND the entire SF Planning Commission for their exceptional work on long-range planning for the Eastern Neighborhoods, Market and Octavia, Balboa Park and Visitacion Valley. These area plans that were adopted in 2008 have brought our city many thousands of units of badly-needed new housing, a significant fraction of them at below-market rates. Just as important, these area plans have helped validate long-range planning as a worthwhile civic goal in creating balanced, livable neighborhoods. The Planning Commission's work represents the high value in consensus-building and the difficult art of balancing many competing factions, goals near and dear to SFHAC.
