Event
Collision Theory Featuring Asimina Chremos and Pillars and Tongues
On the heels of their own year-long voice/movement collaboration Stridulate, Mohr and Damon are excited to present a series of similar music/movement collaborations. Fueled by a desire to undermine the prevailing preconceptions of accompaniment and the primacy of one discipline over the other in collaborations between musicians and movement practitioners, Collision Theory seeks to incubate a performance environment for novel and largely unpremeditated meetings between notable improvising sound and movement artists. By drawing its audience from the surprisingly mutually exclusive demographics of music and dance enthusiasts in Chicago, and employing unconventional musician/dancer/audience configurations within the space, each performance in the series will constitute a fresh context in which to view live presentation of improvisation in both disciplines. Participating artists will have access to documentation/recordings of the work of their future collaborators prior to meeting them, and Mohr and Damon will work with each pair to determine how their performance will be configured and presented.
