Reach the Peaks 2014
Reach the Peaks is the premier single day hiking challenge in North Carolina. The event is a strenuous 11 mile hike that will test participants to summit the five major peaks of Hanging Rock State Park, including Moore's Knob, Cook's Wall, House Rock, Wolf Rock, and Hanging Rock. Co-organized by the Stokes County Arts Council and Friends of the Sauratown Mountains, all participants will report to Event Start/End location at the Hanging Rock State Park Visitor's Center Parking Lot from 7:30am to 9:30am, with all participants required to begin the hike no later than 9:30am. Advance Registration is $25 per person and ends on Thursday, September 25 at 3:30 pm. Day of Registration is $35 per person. Participants will receive an event t-shirt, event stainless steel water bottle, trail map, post-hike meal, trail comfort/hospitality, entertainment, and trail safety team sweeps. Day of Registration are not guaranteed a t-shirt or water bottle on that day, but can work with event staff for pick-up or delivery on a future date. Participants who complete the hike will receive a specially created embroidered patch, and join a select group of hikers who have completed this single day hiking challenge. Participants interested in pre-registering and including their dog on the hike are encouraged to contact 336 593-8159 prior to the event. Dog registration is $15 per dog, with each receiving a Reach the Peaks bandana (and patch should they complete the hike). Only well-behaved dogs welcomed, with ALL dogs required to be on a leash throughout the entire event. The event will take place rain or shine.
Triad Outdoor Painters will be capturing the day through paintings that will be exhibited the month of October in the Visitors Center, with a reception scheduled for Friday, Oct. 10 from 5:30pm to 8pm.
Hanging Rock State Park is located at 1790 Hanging Rock Park Road, Danbury, NC and is the 2012 North Carolina State Park of the Year with over 7,000 acres of hiking trails, waterfalls, lake/beach/bathhouse, campground/cabins, visitors center, and Dan River access.
