Phantasy of the Arts presents FUSION, a collaboration of performing and visual artists
FAIRHOPE, ALA Phantasy of the Arts 2009, a benefit for the Fairhope Educational Enrichment Foundation, is set for Saturday, Sept. 26 at the Fairhope Civic Center at 6:30 p.m. Fusion is the theme for this 6th annual event in which some of the areas most talented musicians, dancers and visual artists will performtogetherfor a night of dueling entertainment and artistry. Topping off this evening of arts, entertainment, food and beverages will be two of the Gulf Coasts most well known groupsMithril and Roman Streetperforming together live for the first time. Also included in the line up is renowned Mobile saxophonist Joe Lewis performing with saxophonist Blake Nolte of Fairhope. A dueling percussion set will feature David Hughes, the versatile and energetic percussionist with Mithril, playing with the equally versatile Daniel Brett, Conga man percussionist with Roman Street. Highly regarded Mobile Symphony Orchestra violinist/fiddler Tom Morley, widely known for his energetic, eclectic performances with Mithril and Delta Reign, will collaborate with up-and-coming Pensacola fiddler Leila Hobbs. And Fairhope pianist Chris Spies will duel organist Trevor Brooks. Fusion will also happen between the pairing of well-known visual artists who will create works of arton stages during the eventthat will be available for silent auction. Fairhopes Bruce Larsen, the master of art using found objects, will collaborate with abstract painter Randy Moberg. Coleman Mills, most known for his larger than life abstract paintings, will collaborate with artist Felicia Olds. The third stage will feature photographer Stephen Savage working with cartoonist and illustrator J.D. Crowe. Perhaps the most unexpected infusion of fusion for the evening will be blending the high-energy dance steps of hip-hop dancers with classical ballerinas from Creative Outlets Dance Theater. Another exciting twist to this years event is the attire, which is being touted as Glitz, Glam and Blue Jeans. Sponsorships are available, and the proceeds will assist FEEF in ensuring that arts education remains a strong component of the Fairhope public school experience. Individual tickets are $100 each.
