The Road of Life
A new musical by composer Jay Jacques and lyricist Mark Chimsky will receive its first public reading at the acclaimed Granite Theatre in Westerly, Rhode Island.
Set in the Russian city of Leningrad when it was under siege by the German Army in World War II, "The Road of Life" focuses on a love triangle between a female Russian poet, whose radio broadcasts of her poetry help give the people of the beleaguered city of Leningrad the will to survive, the soldier who loves her, and the Nazi who is assigned to capture and kill her.
This staged reading is directed by Broadway director and producer David Black, who has produced such musicals as "George M" with Joel Grey and Bernadette Peters, and "A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum," with Phil Silvers.
This one-night-only public reading will take place on Tuesday July 29, 2014 at 7:30 p.m. at The Granite Theatre, located at One Granite Street in Westerly, Rhode Island. There will be a Q&A with the creators of the musical and David Black following the reading.
