In the Beginning: An Evolutionary Musical Comedy
CREATIONISTS BEWARE! Mercury Players is thrilled to present the newest full-length musical satire by Madison's own Catherine Capellaro and Andrew Rohn (BLASPHEMY!, WALMARTOPIA, TEMP SLAVE). IN THE BEGINNING cleverly explores the debate over evolution in a spoof for the whole family (ages 6+). Adam and Eve have their peaceful lives disrupted when they encounter a mutant fish that is an evolutionary bridge from water to land. Curious by nature, Eve is seduced by the creature's description of the biological history of the world, which conflicts with Adam's fundamentalist views. With a rousing chorus of singing-and-dancing animals and an all-star band of musicians, IN THE BEGINNING offers a zany alternative to traditional theories of our origin.
Conceived in an era where approximately 51 percent of Americans believe God created humans in their present form (CBS News poll), the show may ruffle some feathers. But Capellaro and Rohn say they are committed to creating musicals that push boundaries while entertaining the masses. IN THE BEGINNING is a family-friendly musical that explores themes of evolution and creationism, individualism, sex, love, and the search for spiritual truth.
The cast features some of Madison's finest local talent: Kelly Maxwell, Christopher Babiarz, Luke Arthur, Marcy Weiland, Bonnie Balke, Corianne Wilson, Ken Adams, Pam Adams, Michelle Morency, Lara Winkler, Susan Fortenberry, Sarah Piha, and Christina Steele.
The all-star musicians include three members of Madison's ultimate rock band, the Gomers: Biff Blumfumgagne, Gordon Ranney, and Geoff Brady. The three Gomers will join composer Andrew Rohn (Walmartopia, V05, Sunshine for the Blind, the Merkins.)
