The Path to Eco-Equity: Bridging the Environmental and Social Justice Movements
Oregon Natural Step Network
presents a powerful evening presentation

Featuring

Van Jones, Executive Director, Ella Baker
Center for Human Rights

The Green Wave refers to the exploding economic activity in the "environmentally sustainable" sector that is taking the US (and the world) by storm. Solar panels, wind turbines, green buildings, hybrid cars, and organic agriculture are all part of the blossoming green economy that emphasizes profitability alongside healthy eco-systems.  Human rights leader Van Jones is sounding a powerful call for change movements to come together and "Reclaim the Future."

What if green didn't just stand for a healthy environment? What if green also meant racial, social, and economic justice? What if the demand for Eco-equity, healthy cities, and a green economy was coming powerfully- from all directions? What if media about the new eco-entrepreneurs represented people of color equally?  Repairing the Earth is going to take all of us. Reducing violence and poverty is going to take all of us. Building a truly green and just society is going to take all of us.  Join us for this vital conversation that embodies the sense of unity that is needed between the environmental and social justice movements.

Van Jones is the founder and National Executive Director of the Ella Baker Center for Human Rights (EBC).  Headquartered in Oakland, CA, EBC is a national organization that challenges human rights abuses in the U.S. criminal justice system. Born in rural west Tennessee in 1968, Van is a graduate of the University of Tennessee at Martin and the Yale Law School.  His efforts have won him widespread local, national and international recognition including the Global Leaders for Tomorrow awards, Kerry Kennedy Cuomo "Human Rights Defender," award and the Ashoka Fellowship.  For more information about Van Jones and the work of the Ella Baker Center, please visit: www.ellabakercenter.org.
