Ninth Annual Political Theatre Festival - Series A & B at Gremlin Theatre
A Twin Cities theatre mainstay, our Political Theatre Festival presents highly politicized works by local and national Latino playwrights.  This year's theme, 'Across the Divide' will explore the geo-political and gender divides with plays about Latino immigration and Latina women's issues.

The American Is Dreaming
By Ignacio Solute
An interactive improv based show following the process of the Immigration and Naturalization Service for citizenship in America. No two performances are alike, as each performance is altered based on the actor & audiences answers throughout the play.

Whatever and Delicately
By Pia Wilson
Two women with very different perspectives on life find themselves in a long conversation in a ladies restroom of an upscale Mexican Restaurant. Their conversation reveals just how wrong first impressions can be when you take the time to really look beyond the surface.


American Civil Liberties

An Illegal Immigrants name appears in a New York Times article saying she has died while being detained by the Division of Immigrant Health Services. John seeks out answers for this woman's family as the INS manager tries denying any involvement with this dark case.

Embassy of the Americas

One mans trying ordeal to get an entrance visa into the US at the American embassy becomes a test of wills. Does it pay to follow all the rules and procedures whether or not they make any sense? He wants to become an American because he loves America but is that enough?

Sarita, The Frowning Immigrant
By Guillermo Reyes
A girl from El Salvador comes to Los Angeles and undergoes a series of surgeries to restore her smile. This piece touches on the ironies of life as an immigrant in the USA and how something as simple as smiling can change your life.

The Free Market
By Dominic Orlando
A man is confronted by his past outside his house late one night. The unexpected undocumented visitor reminds him of his past transgression. Who is the criminal and who is the victim? You decide.    


SERIES C

This one-man show NE 2nd Avenue, based on Miami characters, which was commissioned and produced by Miami Light Project as part of their 2001-2002 Contemporary Performance Series and went on to be produced by Coconut Grove Playhouse in Miami in an enormously successful run.

Teo Castellanos NE 2nd Avenue was awarded the International Cultural Exchange grant by Miami-Dade County Cultural Affairs, which allowed Teo to bring his work to the Edinburgh Fringe Festival where it won the Fringe First Award, the most prestigious theater award of the festival. It was also nominated for a South Florida Carbonell Ward for Best New Work and was awarded Best Solo Performance by Miami new Time and Best Original Play by Miami Beach Sun and is currently touring nationally and internationally.
