Zombie Girl: The Movie chronicles the creative passion of an extraordinary pre-teen girl following her filmmaking dreams. Most twelve-year-olds are busy with friends, homework, and online chatting, but film obsessed Emily Hagins spends her time writing and directing the feature-length zombie movie, Pathogen, starring her young friends and classmates. Zombie Girl: The Movie documents the exhilarating and heartbreaking two years it took her to shoot, edit, and world premiere the film to a sold out audience at the Alamo in Austin, Texas. With the help of her mother as agent, crew, and biggest fan, Emily launches an epic adventure in genre filmmaking, battling everything from budget shortfalls to self-doubt, all while coming of age as a teenager. Shooting People and DCTV are honored to screen the New York premiere of this enlivening new documentary, followed by a Q&A with co-director and cinematographer, Erik Mauck.
Erik Mauck (Co-Director, Cinematographer) Erik Mauck worked as a freelance camera operator and editor for the local PBS affiliate before moving to Austin, Texas, where he produces a behind-the-scenes show about local film productions. His work has been featured at the Slamdance Film Festival, Austin Film Festival, Seguin Film Festival, Miami Underground Film Festival, and NALIP San Antonio. Mauck graduated from Southern Illinois University in Carbondale with a BA in Cinema and Photography, and is currently working on two short documentaries.
