Traveling Through Time and Space: The Inauguarl Series
We will take you on a journey through a series of historical and cultural culinary contexts, circumventing the boundaries of time and space: 16 courses in all!
Foods and Ingredients which we see as being specific to certain cultures, traditions, or places often unexpectedly have their roots in faraway lands and have found their new homes through colonialism, trade and other human migrations. Trying to pin down culture is nearly impossible because it, like people, is constantly evolving, and being exchanged through time: what is new today is tomorrow's tradition. This is a dinner to celebrate, explore, and challenge our preconceived notions of food formed across the trajectory of time and geography.
We'll begin the evening with a Farm Picnic set around our indoor permaculture garden and edible wall. A basket of Radishes with Morel Butter, a Nectarine and Bitter Almond Gazpacho will be amongst some of the refreshing first bites you'll eat sitting on our indoor lawn. We'll then take a trip to Thomas Keller's eponymous French Laundry and serve you a series of tastes and interpretations as homage to the great master. Looking back on our childhoods, we'll give you a taste of what has been meaningful in determining our own palates; from Maxime's grandmother's ratatouille, to Andy's Winter Melon Soup. Next, take a comfortable seat in our Middle Eastern tent to experience the jewels of Lebanese country cooking: no utensils needed! The evening will end with a very symbolic experience of what the space means to us; bridging art, food and emotion through the eye of one of the great surrealist artists. We'll interpret recipes from the little known cookbook Salvador Dali published in 1973, titled "Les Diners de Gala".
To comply with Washington food laws, we can only serve dinners at private events to members. Free membership is obtained by joining our mailing list. You will be enrolled with the email address you provide when purchasing, and may unsubscribe at any point. Thank you!
We look forward to seeing you at the table!
