Dean Stevens and Bennett and Lorraine Hammond
Dean Stevens, Jerk of all Trades, has a new title to his list of mischiefs: DRUG DEALER!! Coffee, that is. Imported from Izotalillo, a remote village in El Salvador he has been visiting every six months for the last twenty two years. This year, he took the plunge, and navigated the thicket known as importing coffee by container ship. It was a nightmare, but it worked. We now have a sufficient supply (one ton, fresh roasted once a month!) to be able to offer you Izotalillo Coffee at the concerts, and to offer you dark and medium by the pound, fresh roasted once a month here in Boston. It's the perfect holiday gift! Stock up now, or forever hold your peace.
Dean will be joined in this concert by his most long time addicted, caffein-addled customers and friends, Boston's premiere folk duo, Lorraine and Bennett Hammond.
The concert will be preceded by a Central American Holiday offering of tamales, pupusas and arroz con pollo. )$15 for meal; Reserve in advance at ellenmillerlicsw@yahoo.com)
We also offer you crafts from the villages we visit, and of course COFFEE (!!!), will be available for your holiday gift buying made easy!
DEAN STEVENS For twenty five years Dean Stevens has delighted audiences of all ages throughout the Americas. An exuberant performer of distinctive style and wit, he combines an intricate, self-taught guitar style with a versatile and expressive singing voice. He has established himself as a formidable creator and interpreter of a wide spectrum of songs in English and Spanish. His own material explores a variety of personal and social topics, paints sketches of people and places, celebrates the Earth, and annoys the narrow minded.
Born and raised in Costa Rica, Dean Stevens is a lifelong student of Latin America. He learned Spanish at an early age, and readily absorbed the musical and topical influences of the region. He travels frequently to Central America, and has become known for his extensive humanitarian efforts on behalf of rural communities in El Salvador and Guatemala. Dean Stevens has five highly acclaimed recordings to his credit. His last release, "At Last" (Volcano Records), is a collection of songs in English and Spanish, with guest appearances by Aoife O'Donovan, Billy Novick, Eric Kilburn, Bob Lucas, Kallet, Epstein and Cicone, Laura Cortese, and more.
"Seeing and hearing Dean Stevens live on stage is proof that sanity, literacy, love, hope, and the forces of good are still alive and well and at work in the universe. Losing your faith? Go to a Dean Stevens concert!"
~ Geoff Bartley
LORRAINE AND BENNETT HAMMOND
Lorraine and Bennett Hammond play and sing in perfect complement: blending their instruments with consummate skill, they create a new voice for music that ranges in style from classical through Celtic, blues and contemporary.
The joy they take in their music is contagious, and their flair for tailoring their selection of songs and tunes for individual audiences lends a lively freshness to each performance.
"The Hammonds are folk missionaries of the first order, devoted cultural activists, teachers, event organizers, and performers who love to introduce people to the joys of traditional music."
~ Scott Alarik Boston Globe
