SLAM PLANET, co-presented by The National Poetry Slam and featuring a pre-film intro and live poetry performance by director Mike Henry! (Doc Night)
Mike Henry and Kyle Fuller's debut doc, Slam Planet: War of the Words, nails it but good, and, by virtue of its own innate lyricism, becomes an audiovisual ode in its own right, following close at the heels of the Austin Poetry Slam team as they head off to the 2004 Slam Poetry Nationals in St. Louis and keeping midnight company with ever-more-clever wordsmiths like the redoubtable Christopher Lee, a shattered mirror that nonetheless reflects inner glories. St. Louis? Never mind the Arch: Here's the Tower of Babble.
This Evening will feature a pre-film introduction and poetry reading by filmmaker Mike Henry, the premier of a short by Youth Speaks Center for Investigative Reporting and live poetry performances by several Bay Area superstars!
Please attend this fascinating series of films throughout the month of July in celebration of the 25th Anniversary of the National Poetry Slam. Also included in the series are: "The Front Man" on July 15th and "SlamNation" on July 29th. Also included in this series is "Louder than a Bomb" on July 26th (A free show).
