Allaudin Mathieu & Noam Lemish: New Music for Piano
Master composer, pianist, author and teacher William Allaudin Mathieu collaborates with one of his most famous students, pianist & composer Noam Lemish, to present two Mathieu world premiere pieces for solo piano. "Twenty-Four Almost Easy Pieces," which Allaudin will perform, is a series of decreasingly easy studies composed on the fingers of various students of piano over two decades. The music is intended to instruct students while delighting listeners. The Magic Clavier, played by Noam, is a suite of twelve pieces one in each key- that explore the rainbow of harmonic possibility within single tonal centers. Each pianist will talk about the composition and performance of the piece in depth.
Allaudin, celebrating his 77th birthday in a distinguished lifetime of work, will also bring his playful seriousness and improvisational genius to an improvised set. He will be joined by virtuoso jazz pianist Lemish, who is in his early 30's and lives in Toronto, Canada. Together, they are known to blend into "one musical mind". Part of the pleasure of the evening will be to compare the subtle mix of spontaneity and structure in composition and improvisation.
Mathieu has written four books on music, and is widely regarded as "the deepest philosopher of music working today(Jaron Lanier)" To learn more about W.A. Mathieu, go to www.coldmountainmusic.com
