PUTNAM SMITH AND CONNOR GARVEY
Putnam Smith could be an old world troubadour fresh from the 19th century. This rootsy instrumentalist (guitar, mandolin, piano, cello, fiddle, banjo,....), steeped in Appalachian traditions, is very much a storyteller for the modern age. "The music itself draws elements from the roots of American music,...but is also informed by today's modern songwriters. Putnam's music isn't anachronistic or archaic, it's just heavily informed by a sense of reverence for our shared past and a deep abiding love for the future pathways of American music. " Devon Leger, No Depression
Connor Garvey's songs are like placing folk-funk guitar & ukelele, soulful vocals, and paradoxical metaphors in an electric juicer - you've never tasted it before, but it's intriguing and delectable so you have to keep drinking. "Martin Sexton'ish jangle-funk, Mraz-y confessionals, and a very clear voice." -The Portland Phoenix
Patrons attending the Simple Gifts Coffee House performances can now bring their own beer or wine to enjoy at the concerts. Beverages are allowed in the dining room and auditorium only. As always, there will be coffee, tea, and a variety of baked goods available during the intermission.
