Josh Weckesser Dance Spectacular
Although there wont be any psychedelic cartoons, there will be plenty of dancing and a tall man in a tweed jacket, as the Josh Weckessner Dance Spectacular (JWDS) enters the Big Time. Premiering August 21 22, 2009 at the Building Stage (412 N Carpenter St), JWDS presents their 4th annual performance loosely based on the Peter Gabriel song, as the company continues its journey to the big time.
This endeavor began in 2006 by lighting designer Josh Weckessner, currently with Chicago Human Rhythm Project, Dance Chicago, River North Chicago Dance Company, Jump Rhythm Jazz Project, among others. After lighting performances for companies throughout the Chicagoland area, he decided to invite a group of colleagues to present a vaudeville-esque performance of new choreography. From its meager beginnings at Links Hall, JWDS is celebrating many growths this year, including moving to a larger venue and the company becoming incorporated.
For this years Big Time performance, as always, it will be a low-minded evening of high art, including performances by Synapse Arts Collective, Kinetic Dust, Masha Balovlenkov, Matt Griffo, Brandy White, Sarah Winkler, Be the Groove, Stick & Move and of course, Josh Weckesser. As in all good cabarets, the performances change nightly, with surprises abounding.
