Julian Velard House Concert in Westchester
Julian Velard's engaging style of theatrical, piano-based pop has been hailed by The Sunday Times as "catchy but complicated; a surprisingly rare combination." Velard turns the piano-pop tunesmith stereotype on its ear with a biting, 21st century wit in a stylish package - think Harry Connick, Jr. with the panache of a Brooklyn hipster - recalling Stephen Sondheim or Randy Newman at the peak of their talents.
Julian's latest release, "If You Don't Like It, You Can Leave", is an NYC concept album, and he'll be playing lots of the songs from it at this show. Here's what he has to say about it: "You could say my whole career has been leading to this point. I'm finally going to make an album about the one thing that's influenced me most, my first and truest muse, my hometown of New York City. I want to show you New York the way I see it. Not the stereotype of tourist filled Times Square, dirty subway cars and angry pedestrians. There's another side to this town you can only know by having lived your life here."
We are thrilled to be hosting Julian at Eight Degrees of Freedom, our home in lovely Dobbs Ferry, NY, just 45 minutes from midtown on the Metro-North's Hudson Line (plus a quick cab ride from the station) or an nice half-hour drive up the Henry Hudson or FDR Drive with easy suburban parking for the car-enabled. All ages welcome.
